# Guest favourite on Airbnb («Recomendación del viajero» on the Spanish site): what it is, what criteria it uses and how to get it

> It is a badge for the listing, not the host: Airbnb calculates it every day from ratings, reviews and reliability. You need at least 5 reviews in 4 years and one in the last 2.

**Short answer:** "Guest favourite" (on Airbnb's Spanish website, **"Recomendación del viajero"**) is a badge that Airbnb gives to the homes guests like most. It calculates it **every day, listing by listing**, from ratings, review comments, communication through the platform, host cancellations and quality issues. The minimum requirement is to have **at least 5 reviews in the last 4 years, one of them in the last 2**. It cannot be requested: it is earned with good stays and lost if they stop being good.

## What exactly is it?

A collection of Airbnb's most loved homes, based, according to the platform itself, on data from more than 500 million stays. Its help pages speak of about **2 million homes** in the collection (October 2026). Listings that have it show the badge in **search results** and on the listing page, and guests have a **filter** to see only those homes.

Each home is compared with others from around the world, from its country or both. If you have several listings, each one is assessed separately: one can have it and the one next door not.

## What criteria does Airbnb use?

Airbnb publishes the factors, but **not the minimum scores** (October 2026):

| Factor | What it looks at |
|---|---|
| Overall rating | Stars, review comments and communication between guest and host **on the platform** |
| Category ratings | Check-in, cleanliness, accuracy, communication, location and value |
| Cancellations | The host's cancellation rate |
| Removed reviews | The review removal rate |
| Issues | Quality problems reported to Airbnb's customer service |
| Minimum volume | 5 reviews in the last 4 years, with at least 1 in the last 2 |

Airbnb adds that other factors may apply and that they may change. As a reference, it says that in the listings in the collection the average rate of host cancellations and of quality issues reported to its team is around 1 %.

## What are the "1 %", the "5 %" and the "10 %"?

Among the homes that meet the requirements, Airbnb shows a **percentile ranking**:

- Those in the **top 1 %, 5 % and 10 %** carry a gold trophy, the gold badge, a highlight at the top of the listing page and a label above the reviews. The 10 % one is only shown if there is at least one review in the last 2 years.
- Those in the **bottom 10 %** carry a label above the reviews, but only if they have previously received a communication from Airbnb about quality.

## How is it different from Superhost?

| | Guest favourite | Superhost |
|---|---|---|
| It belongs to… | Each listing | The host (their profile and their listings) |
| How often it is reviewed | Daily | Every 3 months (1 January, April, July and October), with the last 12 months |
| Published requirements | Factors, without figures; minimum of 5 reviews | At least 10 bookings (or 3 adding up to 100 nights), 90 % response rate within 24 hours, cancelling less than 1 %, rating of 4.8 or more |
| Who can have it | Any listing that qualifies | Only listing owners; never co-hosts |

The two can coexist: if you have both, the listing page highlights both. If you are a Superhost but your home is not in the collection, the Superhost badge is shown on the listing and in searches. As Superhost belongs to the owner of the listing, if a manager comes in as co-host they do not take it ([co-host on Airbnb](/guias/coanfitrion-en-airbnb)).

## How is it lost?

Airbnb does not publish a procedure for losing it: it says the collection is updated every day with those factors. In practice, the badge depends on **continuing to meet them**: a run of weak ratings for cleanliness or check-in, cancellations by you, issues that guests report to Airbnb or having no recent reviews (none in 2 years) can take you out of the collection. In addition, Airbnb says that quality, ratings and cancellations also weigh in the order of search results.

On removed reviews: Airbnb counts the review removal rate both here and for Superhost, which can be withdrawn from anyone whose rate is high. Asking for a review to be removed makes sense when it genuinely breaks Airbnb's rules ([removing an unfair review](/guias/retirar-resena-injusta)), not as a habit.

## What do I do to get it?

Airbnb sums up what listings in the collection have: at least five reviews, excellent reviews, good scores in the six categories, a reliable track record and good communication on the platform. Translated to a holiday flat:

1. **The first five reviews**: they are the minimum to get in. Ask for them with a message after check-out ([reviews](/guias/resenas)).
2. **Cleanliness**: it has its own score, and a failure on arrival is paid for in the review ([cleaning and bed linen](/guias/limpieza-y-ropa-de-cama)).
3. **Check-in**: clear instructions, on time, and a lock that does not fail ([locks and keys](/guias/cerradura-y-llaves)).
4. **Accuracy**: the photos and the text must be the real flat ([photos](/guias/fotos-del-anuncio), [texts](/guias/textos-del-anuncio)).
5. **Value**: a price in line with the season ([prices and seasons](/guias/precios-y-temporadas)).
6. **Communication within Airbnb**: the factor refers to communication **on the platform**, which is what Airbnb can see; reply through its messaging.
7. **Do not cancel**: every cancellation by you weighs here and for Superhost ([cancellations](/guias/cancelaciones)).
8. **Solve it before it reaches Airbnb**: an issue the guest reports to customer service counts against you; a message halfway through the stay helps to fix it sooner.

## What does a manager do with this?

A manager looks at the category ratings of each listing and corrects whatever drops (a bed, the Wi-Fi, the check-in instructions) before it becomes a trend. On Airbnb, the listing stays in the owner's account and the manager comes in as co-host: the listing's badge, the reviews and Superhost belong to the owner, and stay with them if they leave the manager.
